The June 17, 2009 Salt Lake Linux Users Group meeting will be on Blender a free open source 3D content creation suite, available for all major operating systems under the GPL presented by Christian Horn.
This month’s meeting will be presented on Parrot by Stephen Weeks:
Parrot is a virtual machine for dynamic languages and a very nice set of
compiler tools. I’ll be walking through the steps of implementing a
compiler for Parrot from the ground up, using scheme as an example.
This month, Clint Savage will be presenting on “Fedora Remix: Custom
distributions based upon proven design” at the Feb 18, 2009 Salt Lake Linux Users Group meeting.

A week or so ago I posted a request to the Salt Lake Linux Users Group members list for ideas for upcoming SLLUG meetings. Here’s a list of what they sent in. All great ideas. I think I got them all listed here. If you suggested an idea and it’s not in the list below, shoot me an email, reply to the thread on the sllug-members@sllug.org list or to this post here.
Hey, just letting people know that if I can’t find a laptop with an nvidia chipset, I’ll demo using GPSs on Linux and talk about gpsbabel, gpicsync and Google Earth instead of talking about Google Sketchup on Wine.
Either way, this meeting tonight will be a blast!
Oh I also have openSUSE 11.1 DVDs to give out. See you there!!!!
A friend brought this dish with her to a party a week ago and I liked it so much that I asked for the recipe. I changed it just slightly and made it with non-sugar sweeteners. This makes an amazingly good Thanksgiving or Christmas appetizer or party tray.
Here’s the announcement I made for the December Salt Lake Linux Users Group meeting. Note the time/date change! It will be held on Monday, Dec. 8th and we will be attending a lecture rather than having an organized meeting. Should be fun!
Finally the long awaited ePUB format books are starting to show up on Penguin Publisher’s site! Here’s a search for the word ‘epub’ that turns up 682 results as of October 15th, 2008. Not all of them are available for download yet but a number of them are accessible right now.
Getting ready to head home for the evening, last night (Sept. 18, 2008), I packed up my stuff, changed into my biking gear and headed out to where my bike had been securely locked while I was at work. I was a bit disappointed to find that my rear tire on my recumbent bike was flat. I had plenty of patches though, being an occasional commuter, I like to think I am prepared for such events. I removed the wheel and got the inner tube removed, patched and replaced in about 1o minutes. After pumping and pumping for much longer that it should have taken I noticed that it wasn’t holding more than 30psi and quickly dropped to nothing once I stopped. An hour later and 5 holes patched on the ancient rubber band I was kind enough to call an inner tube and I decided that there was no fixing the old oxidized piece of rubber.
So, one of my friends and co-workers Eric, just came to my office and asked if I had a couple AA batteries that he could borrow. I searched and looked and finally found two in a Maglite flashlight I had in my backpack. I held the flashlight up and said “here’s a couple” and he said “Uh, you don’t have 4? OK, I’ll keep looking”.
I could have sworn that “a couple” meant two. I think he’s just focused elsewhere - his last day here is tomorrow.
Stuart Jansen from Guru Labs will be presenting on KVM kernel based virtual machine at SLLUG this month. Here’s the announcement for next week’s Salt Lake Linux Users Group meeting:

I’m always amazed by the generosity of my friends and family at this time of year. With only a week and a half, I not only raised the minimum for participation in this year’s ride but had to change my goal twice! I want to thank everyone who has contributed financially as well as those who support me in other ways each and every year for the MS150! I can’t do it without you and I really appreciate your kindness.
Wow, I have several friends that use MSN and I use Pidgin to communicate with them. They have told me time and time again that I always appear off line when I am not or have been on line all day. I get this message a lot: “Message could not be sent because a connection error occurred:” when sending messages to them.

I’m going to be riding the Multiple Sclerosis 150
mile benefit ride this year - again! Many were able to support me through encouragement as well donations to help me reach my fund raising goals. This is also a chance for me to connect with many friends who I haven’t heard from for a long time so drop a line when you get a chance - It would be great to hear from you again.
I’ll be presenting tomorrow night (Wed. May 21, 2008) on the OpenSuse Build Service at the Salt Lake Linux Users Group meeting. Everyone is welcome and it’s free! The announcement I wrote for the SLLUG mailing list follows:

I don’t want to have to go through some winding, confusing process of reading HOWTOs, hand editing xorg.conf files, restarting X over and over again just to get decent support for my wacom digitizer pad. Especially when the experience on windows and mac is completely painless.
